翻译原文:
Cambridge, Mass.
"The most popular and beloved poet of his era, even Queen Victoria was an admirer. His handsome house on Brattle Street, Washington's headquarters during the Siege of Boston, has a rich collection of furnishings, mementos and writings. The study has a chair carved from the 'spreading chestnut tree' Longfellow (1807-82) made famous in his poem," McClatchy says.
Dunbar House
Dayton, Ohio
"Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906), the son of freed slaves, was only 33 when he died of tuberculosis, but already had achieved fame as one of the first important African-American poets," McClatchy says. "His legacy continues. Maya Angelou took the last line of his poem Sympathy for the title of her book, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings." The Italianate, turn-of-the-20th-century home has been restored, and a new visitors center contains interpretive panels chronicling Dunbar's life.
