Being an international footballing legend is difficult for people subject to the same physiological limitations as rest of we mortals. Due to his pan-global commitments, Mr. Beckham is already showing signs of fatigue as well as recovering from an ankle injury.
Wrong side of the car, David, try the other.
It’s not surprising that he is showing signs of being tired. Let’s look at this schedule. After flying 2, 451 miles from Los Angeles, he played on Saturday night in New York for L. A. Galaxy. The game finished at round about 9 p. m. The next day he boarded a plane and flew 3, 458 miles to the UK.
Although now back on home territory, his body clock will remain on the US Eastern Time. But he hopes to play again at Wembley for England on Wednesday night.
"He will do fine during the England match. His biological clock will be slightly out, not greatly out. The bigger problem will arise from not being able to sleep prior to the match. Because when he will be trying to sleep in the UK, his L. A. time will be such that it will prevent him from doing that. ”
On Thursday they will be off to the airport again, and 5, 382 miles later he will arrive in Los Angeles at round about midnight on Wednesday local time. He’ll then play in L. A. on Thursday night at 7:30.
"I think what you've got to remember is that David Beckham, he doesn’t fly like the rest of us. He is not flying economy. He’s got a sore in ankle, they're assessing it at the moment whether that ankle will come through regardless of how he is flying and playing. We don’t know, but I would have thought that he is flying in pretty much first-class luxury, lying on his back, with his foot up, put the old stocking on, and I don’t think we will see any remarkable loss of fitness through the eleven-hour flight. ”
In just 5 days, he would have traveled a staggering 11, 291 miles, the equivalent to circling the world 1. 5 times, and he would have been in four time zones. Is this too much for any man? And how will he look after such a grueling schedule. Something like this maybe. Surely even sporting icons need sleep.
