Reports in the Pakistani media say the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has proposed a power-sharing arrangement in secret talks with President Pervez Musharraf's and has given him 48 hours to respond. The reports say Ms. Bhuto wants a clear statement that President Musharraf will resign as army head by the end of the year. Barbara Plett reports from Islamabad.

"The Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said the deal was 80% done. He said the crucial issue over General Musharraf's dual role as President and army chief had been resolved. Benazir Bhutto made a similar comment to a British newspaper although neither she nor Mr. Ahmed deliberated. At the same time, the other exiled opposition leader Nawaz Sharif is gaining support by strongly opposing army rule."
