The husband and wife have been at each other's
throats so long that they have forgotten how
much they used to love one another.

at each other's throats

A:at each other's throats 表面意思是在人的喉咙里,但是我觉得如果很恩爱的夫妇,应该是at each other's heart.所以我认为at each other's throats的深层意思是冷战.

B:at each other's throats据我的理解应该是“如刺在喉”,或者是“如芒刺在背”的意思。

at each other's throats
例句:
1、The dogs flew at each other's throats.
2、Those two are always at each other’s throats.
3、She and my father were at each other's throats over politics.
4、American courts and universities are at each other's throats, and once again the issue is race.
